MOVEMENT, HEALTH AND THE POWER OF VACUITY

an article by Olivier Roy, Acupuncturist, Montreal, january 2009

Interestingly, acupoints are found to show lowered cutaneous electrical resistance in comparison to other surface areas close to their traditional location*. These strong energy holes or 'wells', described as such by traditional litterature, correlates recent findings in modern quantum physic as well. Quantum physics describes the very emptiness of our universe to be at the root of all forces; attraction and expansion, all caused by gravitational fields around giant, empty, bottomless holes, commonly refered to as blackholes or blackhole suns**

Emptiness also is the very foundation of much meditation and visualization which triggers deep healing. These practices require to create internal vacuity in order to receive enlightenment or realization of ones' true nature and purpose. On a totally physical level, we humans are beings at the very image of our universe, which mostly contains emptiness. Like this great vastness we call the universe, we are composed at more than 99% of emptiness! It is the rapid movement of our small particles around emptiness which creates the impression of being made of a solid state material. This is probably how finding one's true essence is so intrinsequely linked to creating emptiness, the state at the very core of our making.

Promoting movement generates health; creating a vacuum for emptiness gives birth to this moving force. The explanation of how movement is at the very core of healing can be echoed in practical clinical obsevation and basic traditional chinese theory. In traditional theory, all dis-ease can be traced up to a root stagnation in the circulation of a certain meridian, or pathway in the body. Resuming normal circulation in the meridian with a therapeutic movement of the patient's energy brings back health and balance. In practice, patients who experience profound transformations during an acupuncture treatment often notice and express, often bewildered; a strong movement of forces in various directions, sometimes in an upward, downward, toward the interior or toward the exterior fashion. Another common report, upon needle insertion, is movement felt from the center of the body to the limbs' extremities. These sensations are pleasurable and unique!
